These Four walls
February 18 - March 15, 2026
"These Four Walls" is a collaborative, 140 foot long installation that tells the story of here and now, at this time in this world. Created over the course of 18 days, it features the work of artists Todd LeJeune (28 feet), Elijah Pfotenhauer (33 feet), The Jams (Augie WK and Jessica Carmen- 49 feet), plus an installation of poster archives from the Rio Theatre (29 feet).
Radius Gallery is a large, rectangular space with the exposed beams and trusses of the Tanyard Building, an original Salz Tannery structure. The room was used for processing hides before the final tanning steps in the Hide House (now the Colligan Theater).
The duo Jessica Carmen and Augie WK shape The Jams. Their style is distinct, referencing Chicano culture and iconic imagery: big cats, Walkmen cassette players, speakers, soda bottles, lowrider cars, flora and fauna. Their work gives a nod to spirituality, featuring window shapes of churches, stained glass, spiritual leaders and folklore.
Although Todd LeJeune has been painting for many years, this is the first time he has painted on location, and at this scale. Todd’s paintings often feel like screenplays or books with chapters, each block telling a story of a hard life lived with playfulness, resilience, forgiveness, and hope.
This is not the first wall painted at the Tannery by long-time resident Elijah Pfotenhauer. In his 30+ years of painting murals he approaches each wall with the belief that art is a tool to unite people across lines of age, race, gender and socio-economic backgrounds. Elijah is known for making inanimate objects show tenderness and sensitivity.
The archives gifted from the Rio Theatre are a collection of show posters and calendars dating back over 30 years. The shows range from feel-good community events to big name musicians like Sinead O’Connor, Patti Smith, and The Residents, to spiritual philosophers and educational authors like Malcolm Gladwell and Stacey Abrams. The sometimes tattered posters show the history of an iconic venue keeping the arts alive and providing a platform for freedom of expression.
The artists selected for “These Four Walls” are individually very mindful and informed about what is happening in the world. They use their art to create change, share stories, and even change policy.
